TITLE: Retroactive Facilitation of Recall and Music

PURPOSE: You have been invited to be in this research study because you have expressed interest in being in it. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how different types of music influence verbal memory.
PROCEDURES: You will be asked your age and gender, then complete a 10-item personality questionnaire before doing a 10-15 minute online verbal memory task.
If you have any questions, concerns, or complaints regarding this study now or in the future, or you think you may have been injured or harmed by the study, contact Dr. Julia Mossbridge jmossbridge@noetic.org.
ACCESS TO YOUR TEST RESULTS: You will not have direct access to your individual test results.
RISKS: This is a minimal risk study. Your comfort and safety is of the utmost importance and protection against risk will occur at many levels. Your participation is voluntary and you are able drop out of the study at any time. Although we have made every effort to protect your identity, there is a minimal risk of loss of confidentiality. You may find the personality questionnaires embarrassing, or you may have a negative response to the memory task. If so, we ask you to please communicate with us if you experience any issues regarding this or any other portion of the study by contacting Julia Mossbridge at jmossbridge@noetic.org. You may withdraw from the study at any time.
ALTERNATIVES: You may choose not to be in this study, you may also chose to drop out of this study at any time.
BENEFITS: You may or may not benefit from being in this study. However, by serving as a participant, you may help us learn how to benefit others in the future.
CONFIDENTIALITY: Methods to maintain participant confidentiality will adhere to HIPAA standards. Hard copy data and subject contact information will be stored in locked files in locked offices. The digital data will be stored on a computer requiring a password to access. All programs and access to the system will be password protected, HIPAA compliant, with encrypted data transmission for enhanced security.
COSTS: It will not cost you anything to participate in this study.
PARTICIPATION: This research is being overseen by an Institutional Review Board (“IRB”). You may talk to the IRB Chair at Dean Radin at dean@noetic.org if:
• Your questions, concerns, or complaints are not being answered by the research team.
• You want to talk to someone besides the research team.
• You have questions about your rights as a research subject.
• You want to get more information or provide input about this research.
Your participation in this study is voluntary. You do not have to join this or any research study. If you do join, and later change your mind, you may quit at any time. If you refuse to join or withdraw early from the study, there will be no penalty or loss of any benefits to which you are otherwise entitled.
If in the future you decide you no longer want to participate in this research, we will remove your name and any other identifiers from your samples and information, but the material will not be destroyed and we will continue to use it for research.
You may be removed from the study if the investigator or funder stops the study or if you do not follow study instructions.
We will give you any new information during the course of this research study that might change the way you feel about being in the study.
